VFanuc - Export to VFanuc archive

▲ What the export is for

The export puts the Fanuc programs open in the editor into one ZIP file, ready to be unpacked on a USB stick and loaded on the controller. Unlike KUKA, a Fanuc controller does not read ZIP files - the archive is a container for the transfer: unpack it into one folder of the USB stick and load all programs from this folder.
Export options of the VFanuc archive.

▲ Starting the export

VFanuc » More » Export to VFanuc archive. The option is active when a Fanuc program (*.ls) is the current window.

The same export is started with the button in the Robot toolbar (next to Compare files). It exports for the robot type of the current program; if no robot program is open, for the active robot project in the project tree. Without an open program and without an active robot project the editor asks to set a robot project as active (context menu Set active robot) or to open a program.
The export in the menu VFanuc » More » Export to VFanuc archive.
Before the export save all programs that are open in the editor - the export works on the files on the disk. If a program has unsaved changes, the editor activates it and stops the export.
The backup folder of the robot is the folder containing system.va (the program itself may be in a subfolder, e.g. the language folder english of a VW archive). If programs of more than one backup are open, the editor asks which backup should be exported.

▲ Export options

OptionWhat is put into the archive
Programs open in the editorevery open *.LS
Add binary *.TP with the same name if found in the backupfor every *.LS the *.TP with the same name - searched next to the *.LS and in the backup folder. If there is none, a note is shown in the summary. On by default
Keep backup folder structurethe files keep their path relative to the backup folder. Off by default - all files are put into the root of the ZIP, which is what the controller expects (all files in one folder of the device)
Entire backup directorythe complete backup folder; all other options are disabled
*.LS or *.TP? The controller loads *.LS (ASCII) files only with the ASCII Upload software option. *.TP files are loaded without any option, but a *.TP taken from the backup is the version of the backup - it does not contain the changes you made in the *.LS file in the editor. To load edited programs without ASCII Upload, convert the *.LS to *.TP first (e.g. with ROBOGUIDE / WinOLPC maketp).

After the export

The editor shows a summary with the number of files in the archive. Show Details... lists every file of the archive with its path, the files that were skipped and why (another robot, machine data, file not found) and the notes of the export.
Summary after the export - Show Details... lists the content of the archive.

The archive is written to a temporary file first and replaces the target file only when it is complete - if something goes wrong (disk full, file open in another program), no half-written ZIP is left on the disk. Two different files that would end up under the same name in the archive stop the export with a list of the conflicting files. The same file selected twice (e.g. open in the editor and part of a selected folder) is simply added once.

The selected options are remembered for the next export.

▲ Structure of the archive

Example - two open programs, options Programs open in the editor and Add binary *.TP (flat):
Robot_R01.zip
 └ FOLGE12.LS
 └ FOLGE12.TP
 └ UP3.LS
 └ UP3.TP

▲ Loading the programs on the robot

  1. Unpack the ZIP into one folder of a USB stick (or of a memory card).
  2. On the teach pendant: MENU » FILE » FILE, [UTIL] » Set Device » USB on TP (UT1:) or USB Disk (UD1:), then open the folder with the programs.
  3. Load the programs:
    • one program - select the file and press F3 LOAD,
    • all programs at once - in the file list select the wildcard line *.TP (or *.LS) itself and press F3 LOAD - the controller asks whether to load all files of this type, or F4 RESTOR » TP programs for all *.TP files of the folder.
  4. Confirm overwriting of existing programs. A program that is selected / running cannot be overwritten - select another program first.
Make a backup of the controller (FILE » BACKUP » All of above) before loading the new programs.
